“The Way Things Go” by Fischli and Weiss

This installation was created by Fischli and Weiss it was theirs biggest project measure a whooping 100 feet. They used a range chemical reactions and physical interactions and managed to carve fire to their own needs.

There has always been something about chain reactions that will always fascinate us, I think that it’s really down to the philosophical question, does fate control us, or do we control our own lives? Does fate exist? Because a chain reaction is what we would describe  as fate, a bit like a pile up on the motorway, one cars crashes, then other and so on… but what if some one makes the chain reaction in the first place? What if some one wanted the pile up? Made the first car crash to create ciaos.

Who knows, but they’re fun to watch!

5 Things You Need to Know About Free Stock Images

It’s really hard to find a good variety of stock images that you can use on anything.

1, First and foremost, you need to be thankful for the person who has gone to the trouble of uploading these nice pictures for you, imagine how you’d feel if some one abused your hard work. Make sure you read the T&C of all stock pictures. Most people require you to credit them on your work, some people ask for links to show what their work has gone towards, every one’s conditions are different, so make sure you read them!

2, In peoples T&Cs it’s always stated that you must change the picture before you upload it onto a website to sell. This is to stop people downloading a free stock photo and then selling it on another. Which is very fair. If you don’t, people can sue you for the money you made on that picture.

3, If you search “free stock images” hundred of sites come up, the crap images are free and then the good ones that you actually want to use are a pretty penny. You can find the odd good website that has great photo’s but I have yet to find one that I would want to put on here.

4, Using stock photos that you have to credit people is a pain in the butt, I’ve seen people complain about how there picture has been used and it had been taken down.

5, All in all, if you need a texture or a flower for your art, get a cheap camera and take them yourself, the people who share their free stock images won’t be any better that what you take, and you build up a missive “stock” yourself that you can also sell if they’re good enough or let them be free, you soon realise why people want credit for their work because of the amount of effort it takes.

I used to love working with ink, pencil and water colour when I was at college, I tried to replicate this in this picture, worked out O.K.

Free Tutorials from Bobby Chiu (Schoolism.com)

I’ve got a bit of an art crush on Bobby Chiu and most aspiring artists do, who have found him, that is. I love his work, he is a Jedi master of digital painting, yes I did call him Yoda and for good reason too!

Who is this dude?

Bobby Chiu is in Toronto and he is the god of Imaginism Studios. He creates creature concepts for a lot of big movie companies and he is awesome- thats all you need to know.

Imaginism Studios also teach “Schoolism”, there’s a whole load of different types of courses from basic digital painting to creature design, storyboarding etc… On one of the courses, you send one of your assignments in and they tutor paints over it for you and corrects it, so after your course you have an amazing piece of artwork which you drew and the pro’s coloured!

Here’s the link to schoolism:

If you don’t have any moneyz there are loads of free tutorials created by Mr Bobby Chiu on youtube (yay) I’ve only just thought to look today, I will be watching!

He’s so good at explaining his meathods and also getting to the heart of the character.

Part one of digital painting, and so on….

There’s loads more but I thought these are the best.
