Zombie Dolls- If you’re creeped out by dolls like I am, this isn’t the post for you.

Now, we’ve all seem Chucky, the adorable little doll that was released 1988. We all thought, “boy, I would love one of those to brighten up my living space”. I am, of course, being sarcastic. That film scared me for life, never liked dolls before and that film just sealed it for me.

But there is a new craze sweeping through the art world, that is, “Zombie Dolls”. They’re horrendously life like, ugly and creepy. Despite their looks, they’re becoming rather popular with people who are into the fashion of stripy socks and big boots.

After deciding to write this about them, in all honesty there are some Vampire baby dolls that I would have. There’s one that looks like Claudia from Interview with the Vampire, creepy and beautiful all in one. Never the less having one sat in the corner of my room at night would end up causing me to have slight sleep problems.

Bean Shanine, proud owner of the Twisted Bean Stalk Nursery has absolutely got her dolls down to a fine art. They’re so realistic and life like I’ve seen worse modelling in big movies. They do fetch a fare old price but she does spend 8 pain staking hours on each doll and for the craftsmanship I think they’re worth it. Each doll has 30 layers of paint and baked after every layer.

So here we go, introducing Memphis, I lovely little blonde girl with a cute little bunny-wunny teddy.

So life like which is what makes them creepier than if they looked tacky. Below is the Claudia one I mentioned above, makes me want to watch that now.

Bean Shanine’s dolls have become so popular that  Sharon Osbourne was given one as a gift. She, like me though that they were “very well made and slightly disturbing”. Like this one below…

If you’d like to see one of these babies in real life Bean Shanine will be at The Down East Doll Show, North Carolina 19-22th June 2013 at booth 305. There will be 10 on display ready to go if you’re thinking about buying one. She’s also on Etsy, Ebay.

But have a look at the nursery as there are loads more to have a look at.

Innovative Design Concepts

As we are all now the digital renaissance period (as I call it) , the starting point for digital technologies are in our hands. With innovative art and concept design our imaginations run wild with futuristic ideas of what our world will look like in the not so distant future, most of the technologies in this post will be available in our life times or are already on sale.

Siafu (Below) is a concept designed by Jonathan Lucas, a morphing computer interface that gives people with visual impairment or blindness the chance to utalise the whole pc experience. The basis of this design is a concept material called Magneclay, a synthetic-oil based material that will change to  electrical impulses. Imagine what this could mean for people…

I think concept design gets all of us going because it’s exciting, products that we’ve never seen before and that seem impossible are being made possible by the many breaks throughs in science, the Nokia concept below is based on what they could do with OLED screens. Our next production line of TV screens will be OLED a super flexible, thin screen so you can roll up your 60″ TV and keep it in the corner of your room, wrap your mobile around your wrist, simply just amazing.

It’s not just technology that benefits from concept art, it’s for everything you could possibly thing off, our houses, how our food is grown, our pets, how was socialise, transport everything is being re-designed as you ready this buy a mad concept designer, blessed with the brain for science and a brain for art.

With space starting to become a problem in cities because of growing populations vertical farms are on the horizon for us all, space saving, environmentally friendly, low running costs, brilliant idea.

“Progect Glass” from Google.

I don’t care if there’s no real use for them, they’re just cool.

Now this is up and running! It’s in Auckland, New Zealand, you enter the restaurant by using a 120ft high tree top walk way, there’s now hotels around in woodlands with “tree pods” for your rooms!

As I was saying earlier, OLED displays will make screens even more portable when you can roll them up into a tube.

Another Yacht that you can’t have, still they look amazing though, wonder if there are any in red?

How cool would this be!?

No, no, it’s not an alien space craft, its the concept for the Xbox 720.

The aptly named “Magic Cube” make typing on you latest tiny gadget a breeze, on sale too.

Huguette Pizzic- Another Artist to Aspire to.

You may or may not have heard of Huguette Pizzic or Maéva Viricel is a 23 year old artist from France. She is a fabulous. She creates amazing, vintage, European-chic worlds and characters

Huguette Pizzic manages to capture a child’s imagination on page, strange and beautiful monsters,  scenery and people. Her style is very much like the late Maurice Sendak, a some what controversial children’s illustrator and writer, best known for “Where the Wild Things Are”, you will all remember it when you see it.

Huguette Pizzic has been involved in a few projects, made a short film (below), illustrated some books.

National Geographic

Ever since I was little I’ve loved the National Geographic’s magazines, my mum and dad had stacks of the things piled up in the side-bored in the living room, I always at weekends looked through them for the wonderful photography, weird places, new cultures, beautiful scenery, strange animals, it just made the world seem more magical to me, I think it sparked the interest I have in anthropology and art, I always want to learn more about our environment, different cultures etc.. and what better way throught the National Geographic?

I saw on zazzle today that they have their own store, so I’ve picked a few out, theses are only prints but they do do some cases.

Over 160 Million Tires are Thrown Away Each Year- This is what to do with them…

Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of tire art, the texture of the tires and the shape bring these creatures into a world of their own, tire art can make any “normal” animal look like a creature from a lost world.

I used to love the cartoon when I was a kid, the pink elephant bit scared me slightly though, there’s nothing like classic Disney
