Nanami Cowdroy

I know I’ve been bad recently- no posts for some time, sorry guys, life got in the way and I didn’t feel like it, haven’t produced anything at all, plus my keyboard and my mouse has broken which kinda gets in the way.  Anyway I’ve just been looking at pinterest for some inspiration for any artwork for me to do or just anything to get the artistic juices flowing again, it didn’t really help but I’ve discovered a new artist that is just simply awesome.   Her name is Nanami Cowdroy, born in Australia (one of my favourite countries), and he artwork just speaks to me, it’s amazing, I’ve always been a huge fan of pen and ink, there’s something very beautiful about it, the way it blends, the way you can just go crazy with it, the way it captures water onto paper, my carpet doesn’t like it too much though. Nanami’s artwork is the kind where you can stare at it for hours on end and still be picking out new bits, extremely busy, my favourite type! Nanami’s work has so much flow and energy running through it’s veins, it’s absolutely stunning. I love the fact she’s left all in monochrome, they don’t need colour, it just speaks for it’s self.

Nanami actually has a blog you can follow too which she frequently lets you know what she’s been upto and also there’s a link to some skins you can buy with her work on, I’ve never seen or bought from the website so I can’t really say if they’re any good, I think it’s only USA & Canada they sell to.

Nanami’s work does strongly eco traditional Japanese art but with a grungy modern twist, which makes sense as she lives in Australia (amazing country by the way) with an Asian background. I think it’s a brilliant and balanced mix.

The Wonderful World of Book Carving

I think many people are unaware of book carving, some might even think it a waste of good books, I’m not in either of those categories. I think that it’s a beautiful and skilled craft and it really gives a new life to old books.

The thing about book carving is that it seems to pull a story or subject from right off of the page, suddenly books on engineering become interesting, or books on aviation history appeals to everyone. I think it speaks to the imaginative child in all of us, when we used to truly believe in magic (well, there are still some adults that believe but we won’t go there). For me they make me think of the Adam’s Family library and we all wanted one of those, right?

I love the picture below, it looks just like I’m peering out of a cave.

I’m sure there are a lot of people who probably think that destroying books is a bit like graffiti artists tagging our culture, but that’s what art’s about, changing culture, creating something that tugs at your heart strings, something that completely changes the way you look at an object. I’m not saying some one should do this to the dead sea scrolls or the original works of Shakespeare but in a world where books are becoming obsolete we need to do something with them to recycle them and give new life to the stories printed inside, think of all of the books you’ve got sitting gathering dust on your shelves , I bet you’re now looking at them slightly differently and wondering where your craft knife and PVA glue is, have a go at it, you’ll ruin a few but your not going to need them, that’s why you’ve got your Kindle!

Happy New Year to you all.

4D Projection Mapping

This is always fun to watch, my mind boggles at how these magicians are able to mould a building just buy using light trickery. But I think it’s the best form of advertising out at the moment because, they are just amazing, and everyone puts them on youtube and all of a sudden it’s viral and world wide. The very best one is this LG one at the top, they finish it off buy giving people little androids on balloons! WANT ONE!

I miss traditional art.

We I moved over to I had to leave things about traditional art behind. I’ve found that I’ve really missed getting down and dirty with a painting, just going crazy with different tools and techniques, I miss having to scrub my hands and watching all of the beautiful colours spiralling down the plug hole (and clogging it occasionally), peeling the PVA glue off of my face out of my hair and arms, picking up cuttings off of the floor, worrying if anyone will notice the new stain on the carpet, painting the walls accidentally when I have a paint brush in my mouth going for a coffee break, then start to look around and see all of the flicks on the ceiling, knocking a heavily loaded paint brush in the floor, the smells of different paints (I always though silver acrylics always smelt minty, anyone else get that or is it just me?), having a night out on the town and get asked “why do you have paint all up your arms?”- oops.

Ah, good times…

For all of you traditional artists and digital artists, I really like the video below. I always forget to invest as much time in the background of my painting as the object it’s self because they are just as important, they invoke more interest than an object with just a solid colour, very simple, but I always forget it.

New Video on Youtube from Bobby Chiu Game of Thrones

This is a new video from the master- Bobby Chui (Imaginism Studios). I love the fact the he’s into Game of Thrones as much as I am, because I fell across this when looking for what speedpaints people have done for Game of Thrones because I’m going to do one and not only that the choice of his subject matter seems to give the impression that his favourite character (as well as mine and I’m sure nearly everyone) is Tyrion Lannister, the best character I have ever come across in fiction.

Any way, enjoy the video I think it’s a fabulous painting.

Happy Tree Friends are on Zazzle!

We I was in school I remember one of my friends showing me the cartoons of the Happy Tree Friends on Youtube. These cartoons are so funny and violent, there a bit like the Itchy and Scratchy Show on the Simpsons.

They normally start off with a cute sweet bunny or fury critter bouncing along in there happy woodland world when they normally come to a violent end. It’s obviously not for some people, but I find them amuzing. Anyway I found there store on zazzle.com, so here’s some of there stuff I want and some of their videos.

Mitch Dobrowner- Storms

As the U.K has been drenched in rain recently I thought I’d do a post about Mother Nature’s Storm and what better photographer to show case than Mitch Dobrowner? He has a fantastic way of capturing the violence and power of storms.

Since I was young I’ve always been fascinated buy the weather, how it turns on you so quickly, how fierce they become, that it can destroy us and all we have built. I’ve always wanted to go on one of those storm chasing holidays in america (sad, I know) but for now all I can do is look at pictures.

I’ve made a new Facebook page- Cute Cases!

When you get a free minute or two go to my new facebook page Cute Cases. It’s dedicated to all things cute and fluffy. I think that there aren’t enough cute cases in the world so I’ve taken it as a mission to spread the cuteness from Zazzle . It won’t just be animals, there will be pink bling cases, cup cakes bows, ribbons etc…

I will also be accepting people’s cute pictures to create beautiful albums for everyone to look at, all types of picture are excepted so if your not a great photographer don’t worry, I’m crap at it too.

This is Simply the Best Video on Youtube- What a Proposal!

“On Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012, I told my girlfriend to meet me at my parent’s house for dinner. When she arrived I had stationed my brother to sit her in the back of an open Honda CRV and give her some headphones. He “wanted to play her a song”…

What she got instead was the world’s first Live Lip-Dub Proposal.”

All the best to both of them. Who’s crying now? lol
